Plumbing......Boring!

The house is coming along, but not much to show you because most are still works in progress. Hopefully, the plumbers should be there any day??? I know.....plumbing is boring! But, I think it can definitely help or hurt the overall look of a bathroom. So, like everything else I OBSESSED over the right sink/tub/faucet, etc. Just thought I'd share some of my choices. If you notice, ALL of the fixtures have very hard angles-no round or oval shapes here. All rectangles and squares in this house. All of my plumbing supplies came from LCR Plumbing Warehouse. Thanks for your help, Stacey!

Here's the work in progress:

I used a mosaic wood tile for the counter top made by Sydney Glasstiles which was supplied by the amazing Reagan at The Floor Store of Acadiana. Now, we're just waiting for the tile to be grouted and the sink/faucet to be installed.


Oh, and that piece of wood under the counter top is just for support while it dries. :)

"Mom, Why Do Women Like Glassware?"

According to my son, he doesn't get my obsession with glassware. He doesn't understand why I need so many dishes/glasses/bowls, etc. I'm not sure how to answer his question, but I DO know that I needed somewhere to store it all. :) So, my architect designed a closet in my dining room with floor to ceiling shelves. I knew that this closet needed something special, so I picked out these 9 foot antique doors from Paul Michael Home. I can't wait to unpack!

Finish This House So I Can Sleep!

I have turned into an insomniac and it's driving me CRAZY! I've always been a night owl, but this is for the birds. I literally toss and turn until at least 2 am-this has been going on ALL week. I obsess over house stuff and my brain won't go to sleep. I unpack in my mind every night.......like, what am I going to put in my huge laundry room closet??? (Of course, I had time to figure it out-seasonal decorations! And in my anal-retentive fashion, one season per shelf. Labeled, of course!) Which cabinets are all the dishes/pots/plates going in??? Last night's obsession was what to do with the space above the range??


The ceilings are 12 ft. and I need something to fill this space and not make this beam seem so squatty?? So, I decided to add some sconces for interest and dimension. These are my top picks.

Let There Be Light!

There's lots of hustle and bustle around the house this week. I can't wait for all the lighting to be installed. Any day now....Hopefully, Monday's the big day. I scoured the Internet for lighting options that were both affordable yet stylish. I also got lots of help from Lauren @ Teche Electric. Thanks, Lauren!

The House That Ray Built

I've always heard that the key to building a house is having a good, reputable builder. Well, I cannot say enough about MY builder. LR Mitchell Construction is a father/son team who are the BEST! They have made this process as easy as building a custom home can be. All of their sub-contractors are of the highest quality. (For a "detail-oriented" person like me, that says A LOT!) Ray Mitchell of LR Mitchell is always responsive and I highly recommend him as a builder. 

The other key to building a house is having a WONDERFUL husband who lets you do whatever you want. :) He trusts my choices and if he doesn't like something that I've picked out, we compromise and pick something else. Thanks, Honey!


So, we've got stucco, tile/wood flooring and a kitchen! I could not have done all of this without the help of several vendors. 

Reagan @ The Floor Store was so great to work with and has the patience of a saint. I'm sure it's common, but I've changed my mind about 1,000 times. I'll show ALL my tile/flooring choices in later posts-so stay tuned! 

Another major decision for me was cabinets and counter tops.  It was great to be able to get both cabinets and counter tops from one vendor-Stine Lumber. All cabinets throughout the house are made by Mid Continent Cabinetry. The kitchen and master bath counter tops are made by Cambria. My vendor Leighton was so great and very responsive throughout the entire process.
